The Fair Lawn Commons Apartment complex is home to a dynamic and growing Jewish community.
Minyanim take place Shabbat evening and afternoon. There is a communal sukkah, and yom tov shiurim. Special events have included a Tikkun Leil Shavuot, communal Eicha reading on Tisha b’Av and a Tu b’Shvat seder. The complex has a spacious and elegantly furnished community center that has housed these special events, britot and sheva brachot.
Many shuls in town are within walking distance. Our friends from the surrounding neighborhoods often join us for the activities that take place here.
The Commons are conveniently located near kosher food establishments including Zadies Bake Shop and Petaks Deli. The Perfect Pita restaurant provides dining service, and Kosher Express has Chinese take-out. Food Showcase is the local kosher supermarket.
Fair Lawn itself is experiencing a Jewish renaissance. We have a mikveh, eruv, and chevra kadisha. A variety of shiurim, lectures and chevrutot take place in different shuls. Day-care and pre-school programs are run in a number of different synagogues. Many activities for seniors are available. The town has first-rate amenities including a new community/arts center, huge library, and a number of town swimming pools and parks. The public school system is very strong and attracts many middle and upper-middle class families.
Commuting to New York City, Westchester, and Morris/Essex counties is easy via the state highway and mass transit systems that run through town.
Fair Lawn is known for the high level of civic involvement by its citizens. It’s volunteer Community Emergency Response Team is considered a model unit by the state, and its Citizens Police Academy recently graduated its 7th class. Many neighborhoods have block watches, including one here in the Commons.
Fair Lawn Commons is the new prestigious address, setting the standard for upscale apartment living. Our park-like grounds are beautifully landscaped and feature winding walking paths, shaded benches and a one-acre illuminated pond.
